OVERNIGHT PARKING

Parking Overnight on Claremont Streets Is Prohibited
Section 10.32.210 of the Claremont Municipal Code prohibits parking any vehicle on a City street for more than one hour between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Please note, trailers, whether attached to another vehicle or not, will be treated as a distinct and separate vehicle. There are a variety of reasons for the ordinance, but some major considerations are:

- Street cleaning. Having vehicles off the streets at night ensures that most streets will be clear for the street sweeping trucks in the morning.
- Beautification. Requiring vehicles to be parked off the streets makes the City a more attractive place to live.
- Lower crime. Vehicles parked on the street at night can be targets for theft and vandalism. Having most of them off the street also helps patrol officers see which ones might not belong in the area. Sometimes a resident may need to have a car on the street overnight. Some of the reasons include the car has broken down, the driveway is being re-paved, the driver is a care provider, or guests are staying overnight. For these and other reasons, an exemption process is available.

Obtaining an Overnight Parking (ONP) Exemption
If you have to park on the street between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., you can apply for an ONP Exemption up to 60 days in advance. Each household is entitled to 3 ONP Exemptions (3 nights) per vehicle, per month. A trailer, whether attached to another vehicle or not, requires its own exemption. There are two ways to apply for an exemption:

- ONLINE - Online Exemption requests will only be accepted until 3:30 a.m. the morning of the exemption request.
- MOBILE APP - Go to the App Store and locate the "Claremont Overnight Parking App," which is dedicated to processing ONP exemptions.

To cancel or modify a previously-entered exemption date, enter license plate number below and follow the steps of the online exemption application form. If your vehicle does not have a license plate, enter the last six digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You can then select a new exemption date using the dropdown menu on this same page. Exemption cancellations will only be accepted prior to 2 a.m. on the morning of the exemption date.

Although there is no allowance for a permanent ONP exemption, you may apply for an Extended Overnight Parking Exemption. This is for long term or extended exemptions for driveway construction, etc. A written request must be submitted to the police department. An inspection of the property may be conducted to confirm the need for an exemption. Extended ONP requests will not be accepted online or by mail and must be turned in by person to be processed. After a review of your application, you will be notified by police department personnel if the exemption is granted

When applying for an Overnight Parking Exemption, please select the date when your vehicle will be parked on the street between 2:00 A.M and 6:00 A.M. (Remember the date changes at midnight)
